Un Corps d'été

Painter born in 1995, Cécile Cornet lives and works in Marseille. After graduating with a Master's degree in Gender History, she began a self-taught artistic career in 2019. In 2020, she joined artist JR's Art et Image training program at the Kourtrajmé school and became a member of the collective.

Her work has been exhibited at Château La Coste, Centre d'art Fernand Léger, Galleria Continua and Centquatre. After a residency at Maison Artagon for the spring-summer 2022 season, and again in 2023 at Ateliers Médicis, she is the winner of the Prix Danysz 2023.

Sometimes a refuge, sometimes a prison, Cécile Cornet works on everything that makes the home, an intimate place, actually a collective and political space. Paintings and installations retrace her personal journey, marked by a desire to put color on subjects linked to the condition of women within the private and domestic sphere. Her research and experiments explore notions of home, work, family, security, living and gender. Her work is an individual testimony that contributes to and ultimately belongs to the narrative of a collective identity, through the prism of a working-class social milieu.
